John Smith Genealogy(4.) III. JOHN SMITH, [6-2] b. April 10, 1754, d. Aug. 7, 1821. Justice of the Peace, Representative in the General Court, an influential and useful citizen. " His influence, " said the Hon. J. H. Steele, on the occasion of the centennial celebration, "contributed much towards giving a distinct character to the town. He never let a human being pass him unheeded. His ever active mind and ready talent could draw forth alike the budding powers of childhood, or those of ripened age. With wisdom, purse or hand, he was ever ready to counsel, aid or direct his fellow men." See Morison's centennial address, page 49. He m. Dec. 1, 1791, Margaret Steele, daughter of David Steele. She was born Jan. 3, 1766, and died at Franklin, N. H., Sept. 30, 1839, aged 72.
