Hugh1) was born in
Dracut July 21, 1755. Went with his parents about 1773 to Amherst, New Hampshire
where he permanently settled and died in May, 1793. He was a member of Capt.
Benjamin Taylor's company which left Amherst December 8, 1775, to join the
Continental Army at Winter Hill, and took part in the operations which resulted
in the evacuation of Boston, March 17, 1776. Administration was given to his
widow, Elizabeth on December 6, 1793.
He married June 13. 1782. Elizabeth. born 1763, died May, 1818, daughter of
Daniel Kendrick of Hollis, New Hampshire. She married second, Andrew Leavitt.

1. John, born 1783.
2. Bowen, died at sea.
3. Elizabeth. born 1786, died July 9, 1869. Married June 10, 1810, Edmund,
born August 5. 1787, died August 28, 1869, son of Capt. John and Elizabeth
(Batchelder) Batchelder of Amherst, New Hampshire. About 1819 they settled in
Peru, Vermont and had eight children.
4. Rachel, born 1788. died January 9. 1863. Married June 20. 1811, Ebenezer,
born March 16, 1783, died February 26, 1815, son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth
(Sherwin) Batchelder of Amherst, New Hampshire. They lived in Amherst and had
two children.
5. Hannah, born 1791, died August 12. 1847.
6. Timothy. born July 28. 1793. Inherited his father's farm in Amherst and
died there June 24. 1582. Married first, December 18. 1821, Sophia, born 1803,
died July 7. 1830, daughter of Reuben and Miriam (Whitting) Stearns; and
married second in 1863, Hannah (Mcllvaine) Carr of Amherst.
