(9) RUTH JANE PAINTER, the youngest child of Absalom and Sarah Painter, was married, Nov. 29, 1857, to Shem Bowers. To them were born seven sons and three daughters.

(1) Lydia Lee Bowers. Born Sept. 20, 1858. Married, Nov. 28, 1886, to Samuel P. Ball. They live two and one-half miles east of the Cross Roads, Delaware Co., Ind. Their address is R. F. D. No. 5, Muncie, Ind. They have one daughter.

(1) Mildred Ball. Born Aug. 23, 1892.

(2) Silas R. Bowers. Born Dec. 21, 1859; died Oct. 20, 1890. Married, Aug. 6, 1887, to Ella Frazier, a daughter of Abram and Sylvia Frazier, of Messick, Henry Co., Ind. He was accidentally killed on the grade crossing west of Middletown, Ind., being struck by a fast passenger train. The accident occurred Oct. 20, 1890. He had one daughter.

(3) Sarah Alice Bowers. Born Sept. 6, 1861. Married, Feb. 23, 1893, to James L. Hicks. They live in Brooklyn, Ia. They have two children.

(1) Ethel B. Hicks. Born Dec. 9, 1894.
(2) Wilma Hicks. Born Oct. 8, 1898.

(4) William A. Bowers. Born Oct. 17, 1862. Married, Apr. 25, 1895, to Laura E. Ross, a daughter of James A. and Mary Gibson Ross, of Muncie, Ind. They live in Elwood, Ind.

(5) Anson M. Bowers. Born Feb. 18, 1865.

(6) Oras E. Bowers. Born March 14, 1866.

(7) Thaddeus Daily Bowers. Born Aug. 9, 1867. Married, Dec. 28, 1897, to Mabel Myrtle Goodburn, a daughter of Henry J. and Jane Ana Goodburn, of Marcus, Ia., at which place they at present reside. They have two children.

(1) Myron Oscar Bowers. Born March 2, 1898.
(2) Roscoe Orval Bowers. Born Jan. 10, 1900.

(8) Jesse L. Bowers. Born Feb. 18, 1869. Married, March 20, 1901, to Laura Pence, daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Bowman Pence, of Pennlaird, Va., at which place they at present reside.

(9) Charles Oscar Bowers. Born Dec. 28, 1872. Married, June 14, 1898, to Mabel Wilcox, a daughter of Dr. Vinton Stark and Josephine Louisa Hamilton Wilcox, of Iowa City, Ia. They have one son.

(1) Donovan Hamilton Bowers. Born July 10, 1901.

(10) Bertha May Bowers. Born May 23, 1874. Married, June 28, 1898, to Dr. Clarence Mershon. They live in Fairhope, Ala. They have one son.

(1) Ronald Burdette Mershon. Born Aug. 29, 1901.
