(3) GEORGE WASHINGTON PAINTER, the third son of
Alexander and Mary Painter,
was born at Timberville, Va. Came to Indiana at the age of 18 years. Was married
to Kezia Marsh in 1831, and to them were born nine sons and three daughters.
(1) Samuel D. Painter. Born May 12, 1833; died Feb. 22, 1884.
(2) Silas Perry Painter. Born Dec. 4, 1835. Married, Feb. 19,
1863, to Dorcas C. Heritage, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Heritage. They
live four and one-half miles east of Summitville, Madison Co., Ind. To them have
been born one son and five daughters.
(1) Mary C. Painter. Born June 8, 1864. Married, Feb. 20,
1881, to Thomas M. Hunt. To them were born two children.
(1) Frank Painter Hunt and
(2) Talmage Painter Hunt, twins. Born March 4, 1883.
(2) Elizabeth C. Painter. Married, June 7, 1885, to Robert H.
Atkinson, who died Apr. 16, 1881. To them were born three children.
(1) Lottie Atkinson.
(2) Lester Atkinson. Born Aug. 29, 1889.
(3) Bertie Atkinson. Born Aug. 6, 1891.
(3) Lucinda F. Painter. Born May 23, 1870; died Aug. 4, 1893.
Married, Oct. 22, 1892, to Charles E. Brandon
(4) Eda Jane Painter. Married, June 13, 1889, to George W.
Brown. They have two children.
(1) Cletis R. Brown. Born Oct. 4, 1889.
(2) Agnes J. Brown. Born May 17, 1893.
(5) Lot L. Painter. Married, Dec. 24, 1902, to Della L.
Webster, daughter of George M. and Oliver A. Webster. They have one daughter.
(1) Pauline Josephine Painter. Born Nov. 15, 1903.
(6) Della F. Painter. Died in infancy.
(3) George Washington Alexander Painter. Born March 7, 1837.
married, Dec. 9, 1858, to Elvessa Lewise Norris. They lived for years on the
homestead farm four miles east of Summitville, Ind., but in 1891 they moved to
Summitville, where they at present reside. They have five sons and three
daughters.
(1) Marietta L. Painter. Born Aug. 18, 1859, unmarried and
resides with her parents.
(2) Windford W. Painter. Born Oct. 4, 1860; died Apr. 2, 1889.
married, in October, 1881, to Mary V. Canfill. To them have been born three
children.
(1) Waldo E. Painter.
(2) Otto Painter.
(3) Alva A. Painter.
(3) Lewis W. Leonidas Painter. Born Dec. 22, 1862. Married,
Aug. 3, 1882, to Laura E. Brount, daughter of William and Adeline Brount, of
Madison County, Ind. They have three children.
(1) Edgar B. Painter. Born July 4, 1883; died Oct. 12, 1895.
(2) Charlie L. Painter. Born Dec. 17, 1885.
(3) Virgil G. Painter. Born Aug. 31, 1891.
(4) George Stephen Painter. Born Dec. 25, 1864. After
finishing a collegiate course, he became a minister of the gospel. Several
years since he went abroad (to Germany) to pursue his theological researches.
After returning to America he accepted a charge in the city of Boston, Mass.,
where he at present resides. Unmarried in 1904.
(5) James T. Painter. Born Apr. 7, 1867. Married, in 1896, to
Katherine Vonderhaur, daughter of Ludwig Vonderhaur, of Chicago, Ill., where
Mr. and Mrs. Painter reside. They have two children.
(1) Marguerite Painter. Born in 1897.
(2) Leo Painter. Born in 1901.
(6) Aleanor A. Painter. Born Nov. 29, 1869. Married, Aug. 27,
1897, to Joseph Howard, of Summitville, Ind., where they at present reside.
(7) Cora F. Painter. Born May 8, 1871; died March 4, 1888.
(4) William Bennett Painter. Born Oct. 13, 1838; died June 28,
1863. Married, Feb. 16, 1861, to Sarah Jane Smith, daughter of John and
Elizabeth Smith of Madison Co., Ind., who died Oct. 16, 1891. To them were born
two children.
(1) Emma Florence Painter. Born July 17, 1862. Married, Nov.
21, 1885, to Samuel Edgar Markle. They live in Gaston, Delaware Co., Ind. They
have four children.
(1) William Edgar Markle. Born Aug. 6, 1886.
(2) Sarah Iva Markle. Born Sept. 6, 1889.
(3) Virgil Talmage Markle. Born March 6, 1892; died Dec. 29, 1902.
(4) Anna Frances Markle. Born Apr. 19, 1895.
(2) William M. Painter. Born Feb. 14, 1864. Married, Oct. 11,
1890, to Ida E. Tomlinson, daughter of William and Diantha Tomlinson. To them
have been born five children:

(2) Goldie M. Painter. Born Oct. 9, 1893.
(3) Eva F. Painter. Born July 14, 1896.
(4) John A. Painter. Born March 14, 1899.

(5) James Allen Painter. Born Feb. 27, 1840; died Oct 6, 1845.
(6) Alfred Martin Painter. Born Sept. 20, 1841. Married, Oct.
29, 863, to Samantha Finch. who died Dec. 21, 1892. They lived in Alexandria,
Ind. To them have been born four children.
(1) Elizabeth Painter. Born Apr. 19, 1867. Married, June 6,
1895, to David A. Tomlinson, of Alexandria, Ind.
(2) Harry Wade Painter. Born Apr. 14, 1873. Married, in 1896,
to Irene L. Hatton, daughter of John and Elizabeth Hatton, of Alexandria, Ind.
To them have been born two children.
(1) Alfred Painter. Born in 1898; died in 1902.
(2) Dorothy Painter. Born June 1, 1903
(3) Albert B. Painter. Born Dec. 23, 1874; died May 6, 1901.
Married Edna Pierce, a daughter of Frank Pierce, of Alexandria, Ind.
(4) Arthur Painter. Born June 16, 1876. Married, Oct. 30,
1898, to Beatrice Scribner, daughter of William and Hettie Scribner. They have
two daughters.
(1) Mabel R. Painter. Born Dec. 7, 1899.
(2) Marguerite Painter. Born Sept. 30, 1902.
(7) Lewis Marion Painter. Born Nov. 29, 1843; died March 4,
1883. Married to Sofrona C. Beck, Dec. 5, 1865, the date of whose death is
unknown. To this union one son was born, who died in infancy. He was again
married. Dec. 17, 1871, to Lucy A. Shoemaker, the date of whose death is also
unknown. To this union was born one son.
(1) Alva Allen Painter. Born Sept. 12, 1873. Married, Nov. 25,
1897, to Adelia Kelly, daughter of M. D. and Jennette Kelly. Their post-office
address is R. F. D. No. 16, Alexandria. Ind.
Lewis M. Painter was a third time married, to Elizabeth E.
Tomlinson, daughter of Wiley and Margaret Tomlinson. To this union were born
four children.
(1) Ethel Painter. Born July 26, 1878; died Oct. 21, 1879.
(2) George Irvin Painter. Born July 15, 1880. married, Oct.
23, 1901, to Grace Colson, daughter of William and Caroline Colson. They live
at Fairmount, Ind.
(3) Lola Estelle Painter. Born Apr. 20, 1882. Married, Apr. 5,
1902, to Claude Stuart. They live at Alexandria, Ind., R. F. D. No. 16.
(4) Lewis Marion Painter. Born July 23, 1883.
(8) Mary Catherine Rosanna Painter. Born Oct. 4, 1845; died Dec.
11, 1871. Married, Dec. 31, 1862, to George W. Kelly, of Alexandria, Ind. They
had four children.
(1) Jacob W. Kelly. Born Oct. 29, 1864.
(2) Elizabeth H. Kelly. Born Oct. 28, 1866.
(3) Ida J. Kelly. Born Sept. 7, 1868.
(4) Mary C. R. Kelly. Born Sept. 17, 1871.
(9) Sarah Ann Francesana Almarine Painter. Born Jan. 27, 1849;
died Jan. 10, 1853.
(10) Noah Webster Painter. Born May 21, 1851. Married, Oct. 8,
1870, to Lucinda Ras, who died Sept. 21, 1877. To this union were born three
children.
(1) Iva Painter. Born Apr. 28, 1871. Married, Sept. 20, 1891,
to W. Sherman Scott of Alexandria, Ind. To them have been born four children.

Noah W. Painter was again married, Nov. 7, 1880, to Phoebe
Tippie. To this union were born six children.
(1) Carl W. Painter. Born June 10, 1881. Married, Feb. 20,
1901, to Daisy Beck. They have one daughter.

(2) Mabel C. Painter. Born May 19, 1883; died Aug. 13, 1899.

(11) Perrin Peoria Painter. Born July 8, 1853. Married, March
30. 1876, to Mary R. Keefer, daughter of Gideon and Rebecca Keefer, of
Alexandria, Ind., and who died in 1888. He was married again, Jan. 1, 1893, to
MinnieWilley, a daughter of William E. and Abigail Willey.
(12) Margaret Jane Louisa Painter. Born June 4, 1857. Married,
Apr. 23, 1894, to J. D. Rumberg. They live at 906 Washington Street, Oakland,
Cal.
