(2) CHRISTOPHER PAINTER, second son of
Alexander and Mary Painter,
came to Indiana with his parents in 1830, when 19 years of age. He was married,
Oct. 31, 1838. to Rebecca Rinker, a daughter of George and Mary M. Rinker, who
was born June 10, 1818. and died Feb. 7, 1897. The old homestead is one and
one-half miles west of Springport, Ind. Here all the children were born and
reared, and here Christopher Painter died Apr. 1, 1880, aged 70 years and 3
months. To Christopher and Rebecca Painter were born six sons and one daughter
(1) George Washington Painter. Born Oct. 10, 1840. Married to
Sarah Jane Clellan, daughter of Larken and Mary Clellan, of Henry County, Ind.
They had three sons and eight daughters.
(1) Ora Alice Painter. Born Sept. 26, 1864. Married. Feb. 6,
1879. to Elijah Hawkins. They live four miles north of New Castle, Ind. Their
post-office address is New Castle, R. F. D. No. 4. They have six children.
(1) Clarinda Hawkins. Born March 1, 1880.
(2) Gertrude A. Hawkins. Born May 22, 1881.
(3) George W. Hawkins. Born Nov. 5, 1882.
(4) Jesse L. Hawkins. Born 'Nov. r. 188.
(5) Charles F. Hawkins. Born March 26, 1889.
(6) Rebecca Jane Hawkins. Born Feb. 26, 1894; died March 17, 1894.
(2) Virilla Jenett Painter. Born Jan. 5, 1866; died Aug. 12,
1867.
(3) Clerinda Victoria Painter. Born Apr. 23, 1867. Married. Oct. 8, 1882, to
Wesley B. Harbaugh. They have three sons and one daughter. Their present
post-office address is R. F. D. No. 4, New Castle, Ind.
(1) Ida Harbaugh. Born Dec. 25, 1883. married to Eli Hines.
They live near Mooreland, Ind., which is their post-office address. They
have one daughter.
(1) Inez Hines. Born Aug. 30, 1901.
(2) Frank Harbaugh. Born July 2, 1886.
(3) Joseph Harbaugh. Born June 4, 1889.
(4) George Harbaugh. Born Feb. 16, 1897.
(4) Viretta Jane Painter. Born Oct. 21, 1869. Married. Jan.
28, 1888, to Samuel Myers. They live near Honey Creek, in Henry County, Ind.
They have four children.
(1) Paul Myers. Born Nov. 25, 1889.
(2) Verl Myers. Born July 27, 1893.
(3) Floyd Myers. Born Nov. 23, 1896.
(4) Virgil Myers. Born Nov. 22, 1897; died Dec. 16, 1897.
(5) Elfrida Winnie Painter. Born Oct. 23, 1870; died Feb. 16,
1871.
(6) Mary Rosanna Painter. Born May 4, 1872. Married, Feb. 2, 1896, to Elmer
Geeson. Their present post-office address is R. F. D. No. 4, New Castle, Ind.
They have three children.
(1) Frederic Geeson. Born Nov. 20, 1896.
(2) Gladys Geeson. Born Apr. 9, 1898.
(3) Ralph E. Geeson. Born Apr. 20, 1894.
(7) Frank C. Painter. Born Aug. 27, 1874. Married, Jan. 25,
1894, to Mary Jessie Welsh. They live at present at Middletown, Ind. They have
three children.
(1) Goldie May Painter. Born Apr. 27, 1895.
(2) Ethel Irene Painter. Born June 21, 1897.
(3) Georgia Marie Painter. Born March 9, 1900; died Apr. 25, 1900.
(8) Minnie A. Painter. Born March 25, 1877. Married, June 27,
1900, Edward Bickel. They live in Middletown, Ind. They have one daughter.
(1) Wanettah Bickle. Born Feb. 22, 1904.
(9) Manda E. Painter. Born March 17. 1879, is unmarried, and
resides with her sister; Mrs. Harbaugh.
(10) Oliver Lewis Painter. Born Aug. 26, 1880. Married Rebecca M. Current, a
daughter of Peter C. and Hannah Macey Current. They live at present in
Middletown, Ind. They have two sons.
(1) Marion Franklin Painter. Born July 30, 1901.
(2) Robert Painter. Born Sept. 11, 1903.
(11) David L. Painter. Born Aug. 19, 1883; died Feb. 10, 1884
(2) Mary Jane Painter. Born July 18, 1842. Married, March 21,
1872, to Joseph Frye. He was the son of Samuel and Rebecca Frye, and was born in
Timberville, Rockingham Co., Va., June 29, 1839. They live near the center of
Painters Plain in Henry County, Ind., where Mr. Frye owns and operates a large
flouring-mill, known throughout the whole country as "Frye's Mill." They have
three sons.
(1) William Walter Frye. Born Nov. 21, 1873. Married, Oct. 25,
1899, to Allie S. Hutchins, daughter of Thomas D. and Millie C. Hutchins, of
North Carolina. They reside in New Castle, Ind.
(2) Frank L.. Frye. Born Oct. 14, 1875. Married, July 27,
1897, to Claudia Kerlin, daughter of Levi and Unus Clellan Kerlin. They have
two children.
(1) Gladys May Frye. Born Dec. 4, 1898.
(2) Agnes Marcella Frye. Born in July, 1901.
(3) Harrison Herbert Frye. Born Oct. 18, 1878.
(3) Josiah D. Painter. Born May 19, 1844. Married, June 1, 1873,
to Ellen A. Comstock, a daughter of Dr. J. S. D. and Amanda Comstock. They live
a half mile north of the Christopher Painter homestead. Their post-office
address is Mt. Summit, R. F. D. No. i. To them have been born five children.
(1) India May Painter. Born March 7, 1883; died in August,
1886.
(2) Dorsey E. Painter. Born Jan. 1, 1887; died Jan. 15, 1887.
(3) Coria Leon Painter. Born May 26, 1889.

(5) Grace A. Painter, twins. Born Sept. 10, 1891.
(4) Alexander E. Painter. Born June 26, 1847. Married, Feb. 3,
1870, to Diana Bazzel, daughter of Simon and Sarah Bazzel, who died Sept. 9,
1874. To this union were born two children.
(1) Sarah E. Painter. Born March 10, 1871; died Sept. 11,
1873.
(2) William A. Painter. Born July 11, 1872. Married, Jan. 1,
1896, to Mary Livezey, daughter of Thomas and Eliza Livezey, of Henry County,
Ind. They live on the old Christopher Painter homestead. Their post-office
address is Mt. Summitt, R. F. D. No. 1. They have three children.

(2) Esther Painter. Born Nov. 26, 1898.
(3) Louise Painter. Born Sept. 12, 1902.
Alexander E. Painter was again married Feb. 10, 1876, to Sarah
A. Bazzel. They live one mile north of the old Christopher Painter homestead.
Their post-office address is Mt. Summit, R. F. D. No. 1. To them have been born
three children.
(1) Maude R. Painter. Born Apr. 11, 1877; died Jan. 2, 1882.
(2) Jessie P. Painter. Born Dec. 24, 1879. Married to Isaac
Livezey. They live one and one-half miles north of the old homestead. Their
post-office address is Mt. Mt. Summit, R. F. D. No. I. They have three
children.
(1) Charles P. Livezey. Born Apr. 28, 1897.
(2) John A. Livezey. Born Apr. 18, 1900.
(3) Gladys Livezey. Born Dec. 9, 1902.
(3) Elsie T. Painter. Born Apr. 7, 1882.
(5) Thomas M. Painter. Born Oct. 14, 1850. Married, Oct. 7,
1880, to Lizzie M. Strickler, daughter of Peter C. and Margaret Mowls Strickler,
of Delaware County, Ind. Their post-office address is Springport, Ind. To them
have been horn two children.

(6) Amos L. Painter. Born May 25, 1851; died Oct. 8, 1857.
(7) William J. Painter. Born July 9, 1852. Married, Oct. 7,
1875, to Margaret C. Hayes, a daughter of Simeon B. and Catherine Hayes, of
Sulphur Springs, Ind. They live a half mile east of the old homestead.

(1) John M. Painter. Born Aug. 5, 1876. Married, March 9,
1898, to Iva May Sanders, daughter of Manoah and Arminta Sanders. They have
two children.

1880.
(3) Nettie Lee Painter. Born Sept. 19, 1881. Married, Dec. 11, 1902, to
