(3) CATHERINE PAINTER, the third child and eldest daughter of Christian and Mary E. Painter, was born July 18, 1783, near Timberville, Rockingham Co., Va. She was married, near the year 1807, to Philip Miller. She died Jan. 1, 1841, aged 57 years, 5 months and 27 days. She lies buried in the Painter Cemetery, near Middletown, Ind. An account of her early life can doubtless be found in the Sanders and Miller Family Record, soon to be published, they being her direct lineal descendants. To them were born two sons.

(1) John P. Miller. Born Jan 12, 1809; died March 13, 1890. Married, Dec. 21, 1829, to Elizabeth Coffman, a daughter of David and Susanna Good Coffman, who came from Hesse Cassel, Germany. They were married at Rinkerton, Va. To them was born one daughter.

(1) Mary Miller was married, Aug. 19, 1847, to John Sanders, a son of Anthony and Lovicy Sanders, and a brother to Thomas Sanders, Rhoda Sanders Painter and George W. Sanders, mentioned elsewhere in this Record. He was born Apr. 17, 1822, and died June 3, 1891. To John and Mary Sanders were born ten sons and one daughter.

(1) Manoah Sanders. Born Apr. 4, 1848; died Aug. 26, 1888. Married, Feb. 6, 1868, to Araminta Bowers, a daughter of George and Lydia Bowers, of Henry County, Ind. To them were born seven children.

(1) Otto Leroy Sanders. Born Sept. 11, 1869. Married, Dec. 24, 1881, to Rosie Aulspaw. He lives on the Anthony Sanders home farm, four miles east of Middletown, Ind.
(2) Hattie Viola Sanders. Born Oct. 27, 1872; died March 9, 1891.
(3) Lettie Pearl Sanders. Born June 25, 1874; died July 23, 1892.
(4) Mary Jenettie Sanders. Born Oct. 13, 1877; died Feb. 2, 1891.
(5) Iva May Sanders. Born Oct. 17, 1879. Married, March 9, 1899, to John M. Painter, a son of William J. and Margaret Hayes Painter. (See Alexander Painter Genealogy.)

(6) Lydia Catharine Sanders. Born Apr. 3, 1883; died Jan. 3, 1887.
(7) George Paul Sanders. Born Sept. 11, 1886.
 

(2) Joseph L. Sanders. Born Dec. 18, 1849.  Married, Nov. 28, 1878, to Sarah C. Hedrick, a daughter of John Hedrick, of Middletown, Ind., who died July 3, 1883. To them were born two sons.

(1) John A. Sanders. Born Apr. 25, 1880. married, Apr. 27, 1898, to Cora May Harris, a daughter of Milton Harris, of Cowan, Delaware Co., Ind.

(2) Joseph Frank Sanders. Born May 17, 1882. Married, Dec. 12, 1901, to Tessa Crabill, a daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Crabill, of Springport, Ind. They have one child.

(1) Sarah Ellen Sanders. Born Jan. 27, 1903.

Joseph L. Sanders was again married March 27, 1892, to Ida Zirkle.

(3) Jasper Sanders. Born Aug. 13, 1851. Married, July 12, 1874, to Cordelia Fadely, a daughter of Michael and Lucretia Warnock Fadely, of Honey Creek, Ind. To them have been born five sons and four daughters.

(1) Claude Sanders. Born June 10, 1876.
(2) Grace Sanders. Born Aug. 24, 1878. Married, July 11, 1896, to Claude Fleming, son of Newton R. Fleming. They have three children.

(1) Harry Evan Fleming. Born Sept. 4, 1897.
(2) Roberda Dolores Fleming. Born Jan. 1, 1900.
(3) Jasper Fleming. Born Feb. 17, 1903.

(3) Elizabeth Sanders. Born Nov. 13, 1880; died July 30, 1898.
(4) Clinton Sanders. Born Nov. 16, 1886; died Oct. 11, 1891.

(5) William F. Sanders. Born Feb. 19, 1855. Married to Caroline Showalter, a daughter of Andrew Showalter, of Honey Creek, Ind., at which place they at present reside. Mr. Sanders conducts a large general store. They have three sons.

(6) Simon H. Sanders. Born Nov. 23, 1856; died March 31, 1859.

(7) John A. Sanders. Born May 25, 1858; died Apr. 19, 1859.

(8) Elizabeth Sanders. Born May 10, 1860. Married John Sharkey, of Honey Creek, Ind. They live at present at Eaton, O. They have one son.

(1) Harry Anthony Sharkey.

(9) Lincoln Sanders. Born March 4, 1862. Married, Aug. 31, 1891, to Bertha Jones, a daughter of Thomas and Josine Mellette Jones, who died in 1894. He was again married Dec. 2, 1900, to Bertha Gibler, of Middletown, Ind. They have one son.

(1) Robinson Sanders. Born Sept. 2, 1901.

(10) Emanuel Sanders. Born March 19, 1864. Married. May 15, 1902, to Montrew Day, a daughter of Charles Day, of Honey Creek, Ind. They have one son.

(1) Hervert Sanders. Born Jan. 31, 1890.

(11) Ora D. Sanders. Born Aug. 22, 1866. Married, Apr. 27, 1892, to Ella Fadely, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Fadely, of Honey Creek, Ind. They live at present at Middletown, Ind., where Mr. Sanders is serving as township trustee.

(2) Jacob P. Miller. Born June 12, 1811; died Jan. 31, 1893. Married Dec. 1, 1829. to Hannah Coffman, a daughter of David and Susanna Good Coffman, and sister to the wife of John P. Miller and sister to Joseph Coffman, whose daughter, Hannah Coffman, married William T. Painter, of Yorktown, Ind. To this union were born four sons and five daughters.

(1) Absalom Miller. Born June 21, 1831; died June 3, 1845.

(2) Samuel Miller. Born Dec. 5, 1832; died Dec. 31. 1835.

(3) David Miller. Born Apr. 5, 1834. Married, March 20, 1856, to Lydia Fessler, daughter of Peter and Sarah Fessler. To this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy. The surviving ones are:

(1) Peter Miller. Born Sept. 18, 1857. Married, Nov. 23, 1882, to Bertha Roth, daughter of Michael and Katherine Roth, of Anderson, Ind. They have one daughter.

(1) Cora Blanche Miller. Born Aug. 17, 1883.

(2) Samuel Miller. Born, 1860. married Elizabeth Cummins, the daughter of Charles Cummins, of Honey Creek, Ind. To them have been born two children.

(3) Mary Miller. Born Sept. 29, 1866. Married. Feb. 14, 1893, to Estle A. Beech, of Anderson, Ind., at which place they at present reside.

(4) Elizabeth Miller. Born Apr. 22, 1837. Married, Feb. 8, 1858, to Enos Lindamood. Forty-five years of their married life they lived on their farm one and one-half miles east of Middletown, Ind. Moved in 1903 to Middletown, Ind., where they at present reside. To them have been born two children.

(1) Amanda Lindamood. Born Jan. 24, 1862. Married, Oct. 19, 1886, to Horace G. Painter. (See Absalom Painter branch of this Record.)

(2) Dora Lindamood. Born Oct. 4, 1864. Married, Feb. 20, 1885, to Philip J. Miller. They live at present in Indianapolis, Ind. They have one daughter.

(1) Mayna Miller. Born, 1886.

(5) Philip Miller. Born Sept. 27, 1839; died Nov. 1, 1858.

(6) Sarah Miller. Born Apr. 9, 1842. Married, June 11, 1872, to John M. Shoemaker, a son of Jacob and Amanda Shoemaker. They reside on the home farm two miles east of Middletown, Ind. To them have been horn one son and three daughters.

(1) Ada L. Shoemaker. Born Nov. 20, 1872. Married, Feb. 16, 1892, to Andrew J. Hupp, son of John B. and Elizabeth Bushong Hupp. They live two and one-half miles east of Middletown, Ind. To them have been born three children.

(1) Helen Hupp. Born Jan. 15, 1893.
(2) John Hupp. Born Feb. 15, 1897.
(3) Sarah Elizabeth Hupp. Born March 27, 1904.

(2) William O. Shoemaker. Born July 28, 1874. Married, July 8, 1896, to Allie Lindamood, a daughter of Geo and Sarah Lindamood. They live two and one-half miles east of Middletown, Ind. They have two children.

(1) Joseph F. Shoemaker. Born Sept. 15, 1897.
(2) John M. Shoemaker. Born Dec. 5, 1899.

(3) Martha E. Shoemaker. Born Feb. 10, 1871; died Aug. 21, 1895.

(4) Bertha Shoemaker. Born Feb. 13, 1882. Married, Oct. 17, 1903. to Walter A. Marshall, a son of I. N. and Catherine Marshall, of Middletown, Ind., at which place they at present reside.
 

(7) Mary Miller. Born Sept. 6, 1844; died June 7, 1877. Married, July 28, 1861, to James Alexander. To them were born five children.

(1) Laura Jennettah Alexander. Born Aug. 21. 1862; died Dec. 24, 1877.

(2) David Marion Alexander. Born Apr. 12, 1864; died Apr. 12, 1864.

(3) Sarah Luzerna Alexander. Born Apr. 1, 1866. Married, Dec. 17, 1882, to John Beckner. They live near Frankton, Ind. They have three children.

(1) Ethel May Beckner. Born Dec. 4. 1883.
(2) Clarence Willard Beckner. Born July 13, 1886.
(3) Cloe Macil Beckner. Born Nov. 4, 1888.

(1) Ethel May Beckner was married Apr. 1, 1903, to George Edward Barker.

(4) Mattie Alta Alexander. Born May 15, 1868. Married Aug. 9, 1888. to Wilson M. Webb. They live at Frankton, Ind.

(5) Silurus Alburtus Alexander. Born Dec. 16, 1870. Married. Feb. 3, 1895. to Mary E. Ebert. who died May 3, 1896. To this marriage was horn one child.

(1) Blaine James Alexander. Born Apr. 1, 1896; died June 27, 1896.

Silurus A. Alexander was again married Oct. 31, 1897, to Charlotte Chambers. They live near Perkinsville, Madison Co., Ind. To them have been born three sons.

(1) Joseph Ray Alexander. Born Oct. 22, 1898.
(2) Hershel Lester Alexander. Born July 2, 1900.
(3) Forrest Russel Alexander. Born Jan. 3, 1902.

(8) Leanah Miller. Born June 19, 1847: died March 8, 1872. Married, Feb. 7, 1867, to James Thomas Abshire, a son of Jubal and Nancy Hatton Abshire. Nancy Hatton was sister to Jane Hatton, who married David Painter. (See Alexander Painter branch of this Record.) To James and Leanah Abshire was born one daughter.

(1) Sallie Abshire. Born Nov. 28, 1867. Married, Nov. 17, 1900, to Jacob Fadely, a son of Michael and Lucretia Warnock Fadely, of Honey Creek, Ind. To them have been horn one son and two daughters.

(1) Thelma M. Fadely. Born Sept. 1, 1901.
(2) Marguerite A. Fadely. Born July 27, 190:2
(3) James M. Fadely. Born Jan. 23, 1904.

(9) Martha Miller. Born Aug. 14, 1851. Married, Jan. 6, 1870, to Joseph Sharp. They are living at present at Frankton, Ind. They have had six children.

(1) George A. Sharp. Born June 5, 1871; died July 19, 1883.

(2) John W. Sharp. Born Feb. 12, 1873. Married, Oct. 17, 1894, to Lillie Beckwith, a daughter of Zenas and Belle Beckwith. They live at Frankton, Ind. They have four children.

(1) Lenna M. Sharp. Born Aug. 4, 1896; died Aug. 9, 1897.
(2) Herbert V. Sharp. Born Nov. 18, 1897.
(3) Pauline V. Sharp. Born May 17, 1899.
(4) Mary L. Sharp. Born June 7, 1903.

(3) Loretta A. Sharp. Born Nov. 25, 1877. Married, Nov. 1, 1895, to Lewis Alexander. They have one child.

(1) Audrey G. Alexander. Born Dec. 26, 1902.

(4) Grace O. Sharp. Born Oct. 11, 1879. Married, Sept. 29, 1898, to Orpha P. Cannaday. They have one daughter.
