(3) ABRAHAM PAINTER, the third child of Absalom and Sarah Thompson Painter, was born near Timberville, Va. In 1832 he moved with his parents to this State. He was married, Dec. 12, 1844, to Rhoda Sanders, a daughter of Anthony and Lovicy Sanders. He is the oldest living member of the family at this time (1904). He resides with his wife and one son and one daughter on the home farm, three miles east of Middletown, Ind. He has four sons and six daughters.

(1) Delilah Jane Painter. Born Oct. 18, 1845. Married, Oct. 11, 1864, to Alfred M. Pence. To them seven sons and five daughters have been born.

(1) Otto B. Pence. Born June 19, 1867. Married, Dec. 22, 1895, to Laura B. Houck, a daughter of John W. and Rebecca Houck, of Cowan, Delaware Co., Ind. He conducts a general store at the above-named place at the present time.

(2) Leroy M. Pence. Born Apr. 21, 1869; died Sept. 10, 1870.

(3) John D. Pence. Born March 13, 1871; died Nov. 13, 1877.

(4) Hattie M. Pence. Born Oct. 4, 1873. Married Patrick Hatfield. They are living at present at Middletown, Ind.

(5) Walter R. Pence. Born Apr. 21, 1875. Married, Dec. 22, 1897, to Carrie Moore, a daughter of William and Margaret Moore, of Middletown, Ind. They have two children.

(1) Harry Pence. Born Oct. 1, 1898.
(2) William Pence. Born Sept. 20, 1902.

(7) Francis M. Pence. Born May 8, 1879; died Aug. 13, 1879.

(8) Lou Ona Pence. Born June 12, 1881. Married, June 28, 1903, to Jerry Funkhouser.

(9) Della F. Pence. Born Aug. 21, 1882. Married, Nov. 5, 1898, to John J. Conn. They have one son.

(1) Clifford Conn. Born Nov. 15, 1901.

(10) William O. Pence. Born Jan. 26, 1885.

(11) Chester A. Pence. Born Sept. 26, 1888.

(12) Jessie Mae Pence. Born Apr. 26, 1891.

(2) John James Painter. Born May 10, 1847. Married, Sept. 5, 1898, to Mrs. Katherine Wrayburn, a daughter of Willis and Elnora Williamson, of Muncie, Ind. They have one daughter.

(1) Rhoda Elinora Painter. Born Oct. 27, 1899.

(3) William Francis Painter. Born Jan. 26, 1849. Married, Apr. 16, 1872, to Lizzie Shoemaker, a daughter of David and Amanda Shoemaker, of Delaware County, Ind. Present post-office address is Muncie. R. F. D. No. 5. To them have been born four children.

(1) Zoa Belle Painter. Born Jan. 31, 1874. Married, June 5, 1899, to Frank Mooreland. Their post-office address is Yorktown, R. F. D. No. 3. They have one daughter.

(1) Florence Marie Mooreland. Born Nov. 17, 1901.

(2) David Waldo Painter. Born July 30, 1875.

(3) Dottie P. Painter. Born Nov. 23, 1877.

(4) Mattie M. Painter. Born July 2, 1879.

(4) Sarah Katherine Painter. Born Dec. 24, 1850. Married, Aug. 19, 1869, to John W. Taylor, of Muncie, Ind. They live at 704 Riverside Avenue, Muncie, Ind. They have two children.

(1) Clifford Taylor. Born March 8, 1878.

(2) Edith Taylor. Born Oct. 21, 1882.

(5) Mary Elizabeth Painter. Born July 24, 1852. Married, Aug. 13, 1874, to James G. Taylor. They live at Albert Lea, Minn. They have two children.

(1) Oren Ray Taylor. Married, in October, 1897, to Ella Mogreve.

(2) Estella B. Taylor. Married, in March, 1898, to Sydney D. Beeth. They have one daughter.

(1) Mildred Elizabeth Beeth. Born Feb. 20, 1901.

(6) Absalom David Painter. Born Feb. 17, 1854.

(7) Lovicy Ellen Painter. Born Oct. 14, 1858. Married. Oct. 26, 1882, to Jonas Shoemaker. They live four miles northwest of Muncie, on the Bethel Pike. They have four children.

(1) Ethel Shoemaker. Born Sept. 6, 1883.

(2) Maude Shoemaker. Born March 28, 1885.

(3) Katherine Shoemaker. Born March 26, 1887.

(4) Morrel Shoemaker. Born July 26, 1889.

(8) Lydia Margaret Painter. Born March 7, 1860; died March 19, 1860.

(9) Martha Lincoln Painter. Born March 26, 1861.

(10) George Elsworth Painter. Born Jan. 27, 1863. Married, Dec. 12, 1889, to Dora Bowers, daughter of Michael and Martha Bowers, of Delaware County, Ind. They live on the north part of the homestead farm. Their address is Middletown, Ind.
