The William Hayward Lineage
Williaml was of Braintree, Mass., in 1648. Owing to
the confusion with Howard and Haward, considerable uncertainty exists regarding
the first two generations. That given here is furnished me by Mr. S. P. Sharples,
the well-known genealogist. William married Margery (according to Savage,
Margery Thayer) and was drowned in 1659. He had several children.
William2, probably the son of Williaml and Margery, was of
Swanzey and married Sarah ______. His oldest daughter was Margery.
Jonathan3, son of William2 and Sarah, according to Ballou,
was of Swanzey and came to Milford when yet a minor as far back as 1692. He
probably owned several hundred acres. He married (1) Trial Rockwood, daughter of
the first John Rockwood of Mendon. She was born in 1676 or 1677. He married (2)
Grace ______.
Jonathan4, second child of Jonathan3 and Trial, was born
April 8, 1699. He married Lydia Albee on Jan. 22, 1717, and died Nov. 24, 1750.
His widow died in Douglas, Oct. 3, 1776.
Rebecca5, ninth child of Jonathan4 and Lydia, was born in
Milford, Mass., June 9, 1739. She married Boyce Kimball in Hopkinton on Dec. 4,
1755. She died July 23, 1790.
