The Emerson Lineage

Thomas¹, the ancestor, was probably born in Sedgefield Parish, Co. Durham, England, and died in Ipswich, Mass., May 1, 1666. Tradition says he came to America from England in the "Elizabeth Ann" in 1635. He was in Ipswich as early as 1638, when 80 acres of land was granted him. Before coming to America, he married Elizabeth ______, who survived him. The poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, was his descendant in the seventh generation, and Prof. Benjamin Kendall Emerson, the well-known geologist, is a descendant of the eighth generation.

Elizabeth², daughter of Thomas¹ and Elizabeth, was born in England. She married John Fuller (probably in England), who later resided at Rocky Hill, Ipswich. He died June 4, 1666, she surviving him.
