The Buttolph Lineage
Thomas1, the emigrant, was born in 1603 and came over
in the "Abigail" from London in 1635. He was a freeman in Boston in 1641. He
died in 1667, and his will was probated in Boston, June 25, 1661. The will of
his wife Ann ______, who came with him from Eng., was probated Nov. 10, 1680.
Leiut. John2, son of Thomas1 and Ann, was born Feb. 28,
1639. He married (1) Hannah Gardner on Oct. 16, 1663. She died in Wethersfield,
where he had settled, June 6, 1681. They had five children: Jonathan, Joseph,
John, David, and George. He married (2) Abigail ______ on June 27, 1652, and
they had Abigail and James. He died Jan. 18, 1682, and his wife Abigail followed
on June 5, 1687. He was a man of wealth in those days, his estate being valued
at £1,042. He owned lands in Wethersfield, Hartford, Glastonbury, Lancaster, and
Boston.
David3, son of Lieut. John2 and Hannah, was born in 1670.
He married Mary ______, and died in 1717. He removed from Wethersfield to
Simsbury.
Silence4, daughter of David3 and Mary, married William
Mather on Nov. 7, 1721.
