Capt. Ephraim Jones Genealogy

Capt. Ephraim4 Jones (Jonathan3 Hugh2 Hugh1) was born in Dracut, September 26, 1731. Went to Nottingham West, Nev Hampshire about 1777, and at the close of the Revolution settled in New Boston, New Hampshire, where he afterwards resided and died in 1819, administration of his estate being given March 25, 1819, to his sonin-law, Adams Jones. At the out-break of the Revolution he entered the service, enlisted from Nottingham West in the Continental Army. April 28. 1777, for a term of three years, and on the expiration of this enlistment, reenlisted for the remainder of the war.

After the war he followed the occupation of farmer and blacksmith in New Boston, and was prominent in local affairs, holding the offices of Captain of Militia and Justice of the Peace, serving two years as selectman and being representative in the Legislature 1803-13. He married April 23, 1785, Marcy, born January 5, 1160, daughter of Maj. William and Tabitha (Coburn) Hildreth of Dracut.

CHILDREN

1. Mercy, born October 10, 1785. Married June 27, 1805, her cousin, Adams Jones.
2. Prudence, born August 16, 1788, died December 5, 1855. Married November 21, 1816, Zachariah, born about 1790, died October 25. 1848, son of Thaddeus and Olive (Jones) Coburn of Dracut. They lived in Dracut and had children.
