General Patrick Houstoun Genealogy

General Patrick Houstoun,1 eldest son of Edward Houstoun and Claudia Bond, was a most estimable gentleman and prominent man, Adjutant General of Florida, President of State Senate, and held numerous positions of honor and trust in Florida. He was born in Savannah, and died Monday, May 6, 1901, aged 66 years, in Tallahassee, Fla., his funeral being attended by Confederate Veterans and the State Military. The greatest honor was shown this eminent man and all united in tribute to a worthy son of a distinguished family, who in himself kept up the prestige of the name. He married Martha Bradford, daughter of Col. John Bradford, and had four children:

  •  Edward Augustus Houstoun, born 1866, married 1893, Nannie L King, daughter of Judge Ziba King.

  •  Martha Branch Houstoun, born 1869, married 1893, Perry G. Wall.

  •  James Proctor Screven Houstoun, born 1875, married 1898, Annie Collins, daughter of State Treasurer C. B, Collins.

  •  Claudia Bond Houstoun, born 1878, married 1896, Geo. P. Rainey, Jr., son of Judge Geo. P. Rainey and Miss Lamar, daughter of Col. Thompson B. Lamar, Colonel of the 5th Florida Regiment, C. S. A., and a brother of Hon. Justice L Q. C. Lamar, of Mississippi, late of the U. S. Supreme Court.

Mrs. Patrick Houstoun was Miss Martha Bradford, great-granddaughter of Col. John Bradford, of the Revolutionary War, whose mother was a lineal descendant of Oliver Cromwell. Mrs. Houstoun's mother was a daughter of Gov. John Branch, of North Carolina.
